I need advice on buying a printer to be used when I'm at a university. Honestly, I only need black ink, and there will be months when I won't use it since I will be on break.
How much maintenance comes with laser printers in comparison to inkjet printers? How long do they last?
Thanks, and sorry for so many questions, it's just so hard to pick. How often do you have to replace cartridges on Laser Printers?
Each time you replace the toner cartridge about 3 times, you need to replace the drum. The first start cartridge that comes with the printer prints about 2000 pages. Then the cartridges you buy prints about 10,000 pages. Then the drum prints about 30,000 pages.
How often you replace the cartridge/drum depends on how much you print. Unlike the ink cartridges, the toner usually does not dry out. If you get ink cartridge and let it sit there for weeks without printing anything, the inks will dry out and will not print anything. The laser cartridge does not dry out, so you can let it sit there for months, and print occasionally. At the end, if you do same amount of printing, laser toner comes out cheaper than ink cartridges because each toner cartridge prints way more papers than ink cartridges.
Summary: If you are occasional user, get a laser printer, but be ready to replace the toner soon(the starter cartridge has very little bit of toner inside - after 6 month for myself) then replace the cartridge about two years(such as myself). Then after 6 years, replace the drum also.
If you are heavy user, get a higher priced laser printer. Even though it costs more, the toners have higher capacity than lower priced toners and will end up with lower per page cost.
If you need color printer, get a ink jet printer. You need to print time-to-time to make sure the inks don't dry out.(at least once every week in color). Even though it costs more, the colors are better than color laser printer. How often do you have to replace cartridges on Laser Printers?
1.Ofcourse laser printer cartridges work out costlier than that of inkjet.
2.In all printers the replacement of ink cartridges directly depends on the amount of printing you do or use.
3.When I look at your usage,I feel a simple HP PSC all in one will do the job at the best cost.

Don't forget that most mono Laser printers toners will print around 2,000 to 2,-500 pages before you need to replace the toner. Also most of the mono lasers around have compatible toners available so the cost to print per page is much less than an inkjet machine
