Replacement cartridge for HP Laser Jet 1018?

I just bought a new cartridge (12A as instructed at the store) and inserted it (hope I did it right) but I tried to print and the paper comes out white. What could be wrong The printer is only a few months old.Replacement cartridge for HP Laser Jet 1018?
did you take the thin covering off the bottom of the cartridge? my cartridges have this on the color and the black ones.

When you opened the package, did you make sure the print cartridge did not have a piece of clear tape over the ink holes? If you don't remove the tape, your printer can't print. Hope this helps! :)
